THE ECSTASY NOTE is a surreal, feverish cautionary tale that follows a very interesting month in the life of a middle-aged nobody named Henford. In a moment of rage, Henford’s wife unwittingly discovers within him a mysterious talent. When she stabs Henford in the hand with a fork and then hits it with a knife, the sound it makes induces extreme ecstasy in all who hear it. As public demand for this disturbing talent grows out of control, Henford is drawn into the center of a rising maelstrom of addiction and chaos that threatens to tear apart his town, destroy his family, and indeed his very life. Only the affection of a young deaf woman, Juniper, grounds Henford in reality during his tumultuous voyage; if only he can just wake up and see it.
